Fashion Institute of Technology

The Fashion Institute of Technology is a SUNY college with a strong focus on design, business, and creative disciplines. I was invited to teach a series of courses in the user experience program, working with students who often came from adjacent creative backgrounds and were learning to apply that sensibility to digital products.

The courses covered the full arc of an interaction design study; from framing a research question and recruiting participants, through synthesizing findings into wireframes, and finally into clickable prototypes ready for evaluation. Students were encouraged to defend their design decisions with evidence from their own research, treating the process as a conversation between intent and feedback rather than a checklist. Many of them were stepping into UX for the first time, so a significant part of the work was helping them build the vocabulary and confidence to communicate their thinking to non-designers.
